Wiki Loves Folklore 2026

Wiki Loves Folklore is an international Wikimedia photography campaign documenting intangible cultural heritage: festivals, rituals, music, costume, food, and craft. The 2026 cycle ran from 1 February to 31 March. Despite the contest being free and worldwide, its policy on AI is among the strictest in any open campaign: AI-generated media is excluded even where Commons would otherwise accept it.

Editing rules

Wiki Loves Folklore documents intangible cultural heritage worldwide. The campaign explicitly excludes AI-generated media even where Wikimedia Commons would otherwise allow it. Not accepted: watermarks, AI-generated media, copyrighted-by-others content, overly edited images, low-quality uploads, missing EXIF data (if the camera supports it).
