How do I verify a picture's authenticity?

Upload the picture together with the RAW file it was shot with. The comparison checks that the RAW holds real sensor data, that the picture derives from it, and that the metadata of both agrees with the camera, and returns a report you can share by link. Without the RAW file, the quick check reads the picture's Content Credentials (C2PA) and tells you whether a signed record exists and whether it still matches the file; on its own that cannot certify the picture.

Is the photo verification free?

Can I verify a photo without the RAW file?

No. A photo on its own cannot be verified: the check compares the photo with the RAW file, and without the RAW the capture itself cannot be examined. What a photo alone allows is a read of what the file says about itself: its Content Credentials (C2PA) and who signed them, any AI declaration in its metadata, and a screen of its metadata and compression history for editing traces. What does a verification not tell me?

It does not say whether the scene was staged, who took the photo, or when, beyond what the camera's own clock recorded. It establishes that the uploaded photo derives from the uploaded RAW file, that the RAW holds real sensor data, and whether the capture metadata is consistent.
