AI policy

Generative AI must not be used to create, replace, extend or materially reconstruct any visual element of the entered image. The entrant must retain the original capture file(s) and provide supporting files and workflow information on request. Entrants using AI in breach of the competition’s terms and conditions risk disqualification and permanent exclusion from the Awards.

Editing rules

For 2027 the terms carry a rewritten Use of AI section. The entered image must originate from a photograph captured with a camera or camera-enabled device. Generative AI must not create, replace, extend or materially reconstruct any visual element; text-to-image or image-to-image generation, generative fill or expand, AI-created backgrounds, plates, ingredients, hands, steam, crumbs, reflections or shadows and photographing a generated image are all prohibited. Usual global and local adjustments, cropping, lens corrections, dust-spot removal and non-generative retouching are permitted; focus stacking, exposure blending, stitching or compositing only where a category explicitly allows it and it is declared. Entrants must retain the original capture files and provide them with workflow information on request.
