Wiki Loves Monuments 2027

Wiki Loves Monuments is the world's largest photography competition by entries, run by Wikimedia chapters and volunteer groups in dozens of countries. Entry is free; photos of identified cultural heritage monuments are self-uploaded to Wikimedia Commons under a free licence during a national upload month. The 2026 national contests closed on 31 October 2026 and their top tens go to the international jury by 1 December 2026; the 2025 international winners were announced on 17 and 18 April 2026. The 2027 edition is expected to open in September, following last year's calendar, with national windows between 1 September and 31 October. The international rules do not mention AI-generated images or RAW files, so the policy depends on the national contest.

Editing rules

The international Wiki Loves Monuments rules, published on the organiser page on Wikimedia Commons, require every submission to be self-taken, self-uploaded during the national upload month, freely licensed and tied to an identified monument. They say nothing about AI-generated images or RAW files; an earlier AI ban with RAW verification that we had recorded could not be found on any international Wiki Loves Monuments page in November 2026, so both fields are now unspecified. National contests publish their own rules and some of them do address AI.
