Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA) 2027

The Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA) is an international photography programme with eleven photography categories plus a separate category for AI-generated images. The 2026 cycle closed for submissions on 1 October 2026; judging is under way and the organisers say the winners will be announced soon. The 2027 edition has not been announced and is expected to open in early 2027, following last year's calendar. AI-generated images compete only against each other and can win category prizes, but they are not eligible for Photographer of the Year (EUR 3,000) or Discovery of the Year (EUR 2,000). Fees are EUR 30 per single image for professionals, EUR 20 for non-professionals and EUR 15 for students.

TIFA mirrors the IPA model: AI-generated images are not banned outright but are sequestered in their own category, judged only against each other and ineligible for the headline awards (Photographer of the Year and Discovery of the Year). TIFA says it cannot assess each submission beforehand and relies on photographers to enter work in the correct category. The terms and FAQ say nothing about RAW files, original files or Content Credentials.
