Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2026

The Scottish Nature Photography Awards are run by Perspectives, the partnership of N and J Irvine, and have been held since 2010. The 2026 competition accepts entries from 10 September to 30 November 2026 at GBP 6 per main category, with a portfolio section, a student section on the theme Natural Treasures and a free junior section. The shortlist is due in February 2027 and the winners in March 2027. The rules exclude AI-generated images and image components outright, and every shortlisted image has to be backed by its RAW file, original camera JPEG or original film scan; an image without one is dropped from the shortlist. Focus-stacked and HDR entries must be backed by the full source series.

Authenticity policy

AI policy

AI (artificial intelligence) generated images and image components are not eligible.

RAW files

Failure to provide a RAW, original JPEG or original scan from film will eliminate an image from the shortlist.

Editing rules

The 2026 rules state that AI (artificial intelligence) generated images and image components are not eligible. Entrants submit JPEGs for the first round and are told not to send RAW files at that stage. For every shortlisted image the organisers request the original RAW file, original camera JPEG or original scan from film, and for focus-stacked or HDR images the RAW files of the series or an unprocessed stack; an image whose original is not supplied is eliminated from the shortlist. Fees for 2026: GBP 6 per main category (GBP 5 early bird until 30 September 2026), GBP 10 to 20 for one to three portfolios, GBP 5 for the student portfolio, junior entries free.
