Portrait of Humanity Vol. 7 (2026)

Portrait of Humanity is the British Journal of Photography's annual portraiture award, now in its seventh volume. The contest publishes a hardcover anthology of 200 winning portraits each year, alongside a touring exhibition. Unusually for a prestige award, generative AI is explicitly permitted on the condition that it is declared at submission; undeclared AI images are disqualified.

Editing rules

Portrait of Humanity is the rare prestige award that explicitly permits AI-generated imagery, conditional on disclosure at the point of application. Undeclared AI images are disqualified - making this a disclosure-enforcement regime rather than a ban. Useful index entry as a permissive contrast point to camera-required awards like the Pulitzer.
