International Photography Awards (IPA) 2027

Run by the Lucie Foundation, IPA is one of the largest photography competitions in the world, with professional, non-professional and student tiers across dozens of categories and top prizes of 10,000 US dollars plus the Lucie statuette. The 2027 edition is open for submissions; the deadlines are not yet published, while the 2026 cycle ran from an early-bird deadline on 31 January to a final deadline on 30 June. The 2026 category winners were announced in autumn and Photographer of the Year and Discovery of the Year were revealed at the IPA Photo Fest gala in Athens on 11 October 2026. AI-generated images compete only in their own category.

AI policy

AI-generated Images will only be eligible for prizes within that category (gold/silver/bronze in sub-categories, and overall category), but will NOT be eligible for the Photographer of the Year and Discovery of the Year.

Editing rules

IPA's AI statement defines AI-generated images as images created or generated solely by executing a command to AI, as opposed to conventional photography that has been digitally altered or edited. Such images go into a separate category, are judged only against each other and are excluded from Photographer of the Year and Discovery of the Year. IPA says it does not assess each submission and relies on photographers to choose the right category. The rules, FAQ and terms pages say nothing about RAW or original files.
