Africa Geographic Photographer of the Year 2027
Africa Geographic Photographer of the Year is the leading Africa-focused wildlife and landscape competition, free to enter and published throughout the cycle as weekly editor-selected galleries. The 2026 winners were announced on 11 June 2026: Petr Slavík won with a photograph of a lioness pride hunting a leopard cub on the Chobe River, with Metlha Ngubevana and Amit Eshel as runners-up. The 2027 edition is expected to open in February, following last year's calendar, which ran from 16 February to 7 May. The contest bans AI-generated and composite images and requires RAW files from all winners before the announcement, placing it among the more rigorously verified wildlife awards.

Authenticity policy
AI policy
No composite images or images generated by AI will be permitted. Additionally, any software (including AI) used for post-production adjustments should be used appropriately, not to deceive the viewer or misrepresent reality.
RAW files
ALL winners (winner, runners up and highly commended) must provide raw files of their winning submissions before our winners are announced.
Editing rules
Africa Geographic bans composite and AI-generated images outright and requires AI post-production tools to be used so as not to deceive the viewer or misrepresent reality. The current rules (2026 page, still the only published version) state that all winners, runners-up and highly commended entrants must provide RAW files before the winners are announced, and that the organizers may request RAW files and higher-resolution versions at any point; refusal disqualifies the photo and forfeits any prize. The 2027 rules page is not yet published.
