Question 1

How can I tell if a photo is AI-generated?

Accepted Answer

Look for unnatural textures, warped hands or fingers, inconsistent lighting and reflections, garbled text, and repeating patterns in backgrounds. However, the latest AI models are rapidly improving, making visual detection alone unreliable. [Forensic verification tools](/verify-photos) provide analysis that goes beyond what the human eye can catch.

Question 2

Are AI-generated images getting harder to spot?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each new generation of image models produces more realistic output. Studies show human accuracy at detecting AI images is already close to chance. This is exactly why cryptographic and forensic verification methods are becoming essential for professionals who need to trust the images they use.

Question 3

Can AI detection tools reliably identify fake photos?

Accepted Answer

Pixel-level AI detectors can help, but they produce false positives and struggle with compressed or resized images. A more robust approach is provenance-based verification: checking a published image against the original camera file. That is the method Lumethic uses: comparing a published image with its RAW source through forensic analysis.

Question 4

How does Lumethic verify that a photo is authentic?

Accepted Answer

The photographer uploads their camera RAW file. Lumethic performs a forensic comparison between the RAW and the published image. The result is a shareable [verification report](/verify-photos) that shows the graded result, which checks passed and what each compared. The RAW is used for that check only; see [trust and data handling](/trust).

Question 5

What is C2PA and how does it relate to photo verification?

Accepted Answer

C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) is an open standard for embedding provenance data into media files. Lumethic supports C2PA and extends it with forensic RAW-to-output matching, giving photographers and publishers a stronger chain of evidence than metadata alone.
